All Chip Upgrade kits ordered after June 23, 2020 are assigned to the original profile, but need to be registered in order for the lab to process the sample. To register your Chip Upgrade kit, visit https://you.23andme.com/start/barcode/ and sign into your account.
If your Chip Upgrade kit was purchased before June 23, 2020, you do not need to register, as the Chip Upgrade barcode will be automatically registered to your original profile.
Customers who are eligible to receive a Chip Upgrade can place an upgrade order from within his or her account by going to the Settings page, and clicking the “Learn more about Chip Upgrades” link. Next, click the “Upgrade now” button and complete the order details.

Who is eligible for a Chip Upgrade?
Customers are eligible for a Chip Upgrade when the customer was genotyped on a previous version of the 23andMe platform (V1, V2, V3, or V4).

Do I have to upgrade?
No, 23andMe will not take away any reports that are currently available to each customer. There are a few benefits to upgrading your genotyping chip to the current version. The most noticeable benefit is access to certain reports that are not available to customers genotyped on previous chip versions. Learn more about what reports will be made available.
Keep in mind, 23andMe periodically updates its genotyping chip and you may be eligible to upgrade to the latest chip in the future.
Do I need to register my Chip Upgrade kit?
If your Chip Upgrade was ordered after June 23, 2020, you need to register the Chip Upgrade barcode in order for the lab to process the sample. To register your Chip Upgrade kit, go to https://you.23andme.com/start/barcode/, sign into your account, and enter your 14-digit barcode.
If your Chip Upgrade kit was ordered before June 23, 2020, you do not need to register your barcode. It will be automatically registered to your profile.
