I'm a new customer - what do I need to know about the new 23andMe?

As of October 21, 2015, the 23andMe service in the US now includes reports that meet FDA standards for being scientifically and clinically valid. New customers will receive personalized genetic health reports that include carrier status*, wellness, and trait reports.

Customers will also be able to access interactive tools to share, compare and discover more with friends and family.

  • Ancestry Composition report to learn where your DNA comes from around the world.
  • Neanderthal report to learn how much of your DNA came from Neanderthals.
  • Access to a tool that will find people with whom you share DNA and with whom you share common ancestors.
  • The opportunity to participate in a new way of conducting research that holds the promise of accelerating the pace of discovery and improving the understanding of how genetics influences our lives.

*Our tests can be used to determine carrier status in adults, but cannot determine if you have two copies of the genetic variant. Each test is most relevant for people of certain ethnicities. The tests are not intended to diagnose a disease, or tell you anything about your risk for developing a disease in the future. On their own, carrier status tests are not intended to tell you anything about the health of your fetus, or your newborn child's risk of developing a particular disease later in life.
