If one of the following paternal relatives has been genotyped by 23andMe, a woman can “inherit” his Paternal Line assignment and have it appear both on the Paternal Line page and on the profile in DNA Relatives:

  • Father
  • Brother
  • Paternal uncle
  • Paternal grandfather

Follow these steps to connect the haplogroup for one of these eligible relatives:

  1. Make sure you are sharing genomes

  2. Connect your nodes in the Family Tree

  3. Visit the Paternal Line page and confirm the new haplogroup setting by clicking on the green button

If you are sharing with a male paternal relative that is more distant, you will see his name and paternal haplogroup listed on the right-hand side of the Paternal Line page under Your Family and Friends. You can click on your shared paternal line to learn more about it. You can also add your paternal haplogroup to your profile in the "About Me" section.
